The historic Ronald Reagan Trail features Tampico, Reagan's birthplace; Dixon, where he grew up; and Eureka, where he graduated from Eureka College.  The Trail connects eleven communities linking the historical landmarks that played a vital role in Ronald Reagan's life.  The Trail also represents the most frequently traveled roads that a young Ronald Reagan followed from his home in Dixon before and during his Eureka College years of 1928-1932.  The Illinois General Assembly officially designated the route as The Ronald Reagan Trail on May 21, 1999.

Historic Washington has been brimming with character, small town values and a rich heritage since before Ronald Reagan first visited the town.  Washington celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2000, and the community pride is still evident in the beautiful historic homes and downtown buildings.  While in Washington D.C., President Reagan once sent greetings with an associate coming to visit Washington, Illinois.  The leader of the most powerful nation on earth noted that he had often traveled through downtown Washington as he hitchhiked back to college!
